Two forces at play in American journalism sparked an idea for newsroom innovation that won the support of the Jim Bettinger News Innovation Fund of the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University.
As a JSK alumna, Rose Ciotta was among the first six to be selected for support for her proposal to create a national network of investigative editors to help local news organizations do investigative reporting.
The idea comes at a time when talented journalists have been laid off or pushed out of newsrooms while there’s a renewed push to save local news by helping them do investigative reporting.
The support allowed Ciotta, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative editor, to work with two small newspapers in New York and Pennsylvania.
